THE FRENCHY CAPTAINS
Duo, group and collective formed by Simon Carrière, THE FRENCHY CAPTAINS is first of all covers but not just any covers...
From Bohemian Rhapsody to Seven Nation Army via Wake Me Up, they revisit, they pirate and really appropriate these covers.
It is also original compositions: an Irish intro Welcome, an acoustic reggae song that makes you smile Get Out of your Box, another folk Hey Love, Stay for a While or even a soul ballad with Oriental Angel...
The styles mix around the trumpet and the acoustic violin supported by a beautiful bass-drums rhythm section. On top of all this are the guitar and the singular, inhabited and powerful voice of Simon Carrière.
BIO
In 2014, fresh from releasing his debut solo album Live From the Streets of Ireland, Simon Carrière set off alone on an acoustic tour across Scotland. Upon his return to the Paris metro, while covering "Nothing Else Matters," Sophie Chrisment spontaneously joined him, a musical encounter that would transform his solo journey into a shared project.
Captivated by their chemistry and potential, Simon took Sophie to the 2015 summer edition of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the world’s largest street arts gatherings, where they performed for the first time at the Captain’s Bar, a legendary pub that inspired the band’s name. Back in Paris, Simon brought together Youenn Audran on bass, a drummer, and a Cuban trumpeter; this lineup officially became The Frenchy Captains in spring 2016, exploring a fusion of strings and brass enriched by warm vocal harmonies.
Between 2016 and June 2019, the band played numerous shows while refining their first studio EP, an adventurous blend of original compositions and reimagined covers. Among these gigs, an unusual performance at the Ministry of Justice left a lasting impression. Their sound took shape with a standout set at the Art Rock Festival in Saint-Brieuc, followed by the launch of their six-track EP at Café Oz Châtelet in Paris.
The enforced 2020–2021 hiatus due to Covid gave way to a return to the stage in 2022.
In 2023, The Frenchy Captains conquered YouTube and TikTok with duo covers amassing hundreds of thousands of views, and their "Sweet Dreams (live version)" climbed international playlists.
In 2024, the collective recorded a live session at Pan Piper in Paris with special guests in February, then performed on the Parvis de l’Hôtel de Ville for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and opened for the internationally renowned Celtic rock band Celkilt in Le Creusot. That autumn, the lineup evolved into a flexible collective, alternating intimate duos with larger ensemble sessions featuring additional musicians.
Finally, in June 2025, Out Of Nowhere was released, a live album of eight tracks accompanied by YouTube videos, celebrated by radio stations and media across the USA, UK, Europe, South America, and beyond, and debuting in the Groover World Top 100, a first for a live album.
The physical album’s release party is set for October in Paris, followed by a festival and concert tour kicking off at the end of 2025.
